Swimsuit - Sun Glasses - Print Airline Tickets - Pack bags. As the days for much awaited vacation closes excitement kicks in. You start preparing a to do list and start counting the day's hours to vacation. You start imagining yourself on the beach enjoying the Sun and breeze when suddenly you are awakened with a feeling of concern.

What about my diet on vacation?

You start fearing that vacation is going to be the beginning of the end as has been the case in the past, you make efforts to change your lifestyle and adapt to healthy living and drop those unwanted pounds which you carry & you enjoy flaunting your toned Physique/body in those well fitted stylish clothes. When suddenly you start looking at vacation as a downfall to your progress, which takes you completely of the track.

Escaping this can be difficult while on vacation as you are surrounded by people you love and who not necessarily share the same lifestyle goals as you.

So how do you enjoy yourself while still making room for progress and most importantly staying on track? Here’s few simple (yet effective) STRATEGIES TO MAINTAIN PROGRESS DURING VACATION

1. LEARN HOW TO CHEAT:

Rather than eating a burger or hotdog which you can get anywhere enjoy the delicious local cuisines and take the essence of the place you are travelling, spend few extra bucks on full course meal, if you are going to cheat make it count.

2. SNACK YOUR WAY TO HEALTH

Plan and keep healthy snack handy. Make sure that you snack on something that you enjoy and will help you feel satisfied. This is a good way of stopping you from binging on fired & unhealthy food between meals. It’s important to make sure your snacks are easy to carry as you will be up and travelling while on vacation. Chose a snack high in protein and Fats. Both of these will help to keep you full and satiated until your next meal. Here are some ideas to get you started

  • Protein Bars.
  • Cucumbers and single serve container of hummus
  • Fruits like Apple.
  • Cheese or peanut butter
  • Nuts.
  • Protein shake.
3. PLAN AHEAD:

Before going on a vacation plan you schedule, look for the restaurants around in the area you will be visiting, while staying at a hotel without a gym, prepare a hotel workout schedule.

4. MOVE YOUR BODY:

The real fun of travel is when you take the essence of the place you are visiting, ditch the cab or bike and walk whenever you can, look around absorb the culture and enjoy the vibe of the place, tis helps you to stay active and kick some calories as well without taking out extra time for workout. Walk or run on the beach, or make full use of the swimming pool at the hotel, it’s about staying active. It doesn’t matter what you do just make sure you break a sweat once a day.

5. STAY HYDRATED:

Keep a bottle of water handy. It keeps you hydrated, flush out those toxins, and will help in maintaining your weight.

6. GET ENOUGH PROTEIN:

Now, this the most important as protein not only gives you satiety but also prevents Muscle loss and is much needed for recovery and retaining strength as well. Have a portion of protein in every meal Some easy Option are:

  • Egg white/whole eggs
  • Chicken, Fish, Paneer, Greek Yogurt, Cottage Cheese, Protein shakes
7. GET A NEW EXPERIENCE:

Vacation is a change to get away from all the worries and enjoy the time with loved ones and collect memories which you will cherries for a lifetime. Do activities which you usually do not do in regular life, enjoy some local adventure & sports, click lots of pictures and spend money on experiences rather than food, no one remembers what you ate on your last vacation, do you?? Me neither.

8. EAT WHAT YOU NEED:

Enjoy your meals but only till you are full, do not overeat, rather have a light conversation, enjoy the ambience and the time you spend. IF youare not sure of what your meal should look like, just have apportion of veggies, some protein, and end them with a portion of delicious sweet, yehh sweet but remember do not over eat.

9. Get right back on Track:

Now, you may not be able to follow all the instructions while on vacation, so does that mean you have to give up completely? No, just leave the slip up behind and get right back on track once you are back. Prepare you to do list once you are back, before you go on vacation. This will avoid the day wasted in preparation.

10. HAVE SOMEONE TO KEEP YOU ACCOUNTABLE.

Now, this is irreplaceable, having a coach whom you are accountable to will make sure your plans are well prepared before the vacation ends and you do not keep guessing on your post vacation strategies on how to get back on track plus the thought of reporting back might also stop you from binge eating during vacation. Vacation is a time to relax and enjoy your time with family & friends, do not let it be an excuse to let your wheels come off the wagon.
