Have you ever heard of the success Mantra? “Sleep your way to the Top”?? Doesn’t sound right, correct?? Well it’s true!!

Have you ever watched a cough syrup advertisement where a Father & Son are simultaneously dreaming where one is getting a promotion & the other excels in academic’s and they are suddenly awake coz of bad cough? What it say’s at the end, that in order to succeed you need to be on Top of your Game and a healthy immune system is the most important part of it.

Now, unlike many claims, just having some magic pill does not protect your immune system. It is sleep.

The best part about sleep is that it is totally free and you are in full control of it. Now, how much should you sleep??? Well that may vary for different individual.

A person who is on the toes the entire day and has a job that is physically demanding, need at least 7 hours while someone doing a desk job a sound 6 hours of sleep may be good enough.

This is one question I ask to all my clients when they sign up with me is “how are your stress levels” when they say yes I pop out the most important one “how are your sleep pattern” believe it or not the answer I get 99% of the time from individuals experiencing any kind of stress is that they do not sleep well or sleep very less.

Now, to back up all my claims let’s have a look at what some of the research finding say are the bad effects of lack of sleep.

Cardiovascular disease:

Sleep duration of less than 5 hours per night can increase was risk of Hypertension & Coronary Heart disease

Depression:

A lack of sleep increases the risk of depression by 15&-50% and lack of sleep for 2 weeks can cause major Depression episode. A study also found that long period of deprived sleep can also cause insomnia.

Chronic Disease:

Lack of sleep also Increase risk of Type 2 Diabetes. According to a study
Lack of quality of sleep or insufficient duration of sleep has a negative effect on your Hb1Ac i.e. your blood sugar marker.

Now let’s look at some more effects. Men be aware because Lack of sleep also has a negative effect on your TESTOSTERONE levels and Testicular size as well (making them small) also it has an effect on ageing process where your TESTOSTERONE levels will be that of an individual a decade older than you.

Ladies, read it carefully as Lack of sleep reduces the Strength of our immune system making then weak to tackle any kind of stress which can also effect the Female reproductive health.

Okie now that I have scared you enough, let me tell you what you can do about it. For starters start by sleeping well and focus on getting quality sleep. “Grind through the day, sleep like a champion, be a winner” these re my lines by the way hehe.

Few things you can do to conquer your life if

  • 1: Set a BED TIME ALARM 30 mins before your bed time. Start your bed time ritual and set your mind to fall asleep. This way you are slowly telling your mind it’s time to switch off.
  • 2: Watch, read or Listen to something that will help you take your mind completely off and relax. I love watching Netflix, I have to watch an episode of any series and by the time it ends, my eyes feel like they are holding sand bags.
  • 3: Lights: Make sure you turn off all the unnecessary lights and put your phone, laptop on night mode and dim the lights. That’s what I do as well. This way there is no stress on your eyes and helps to reduce the cortisol levels.

I hope this helps, DO share your inputs and if you have any Favorite Bed time ritual do share them.
